Let Me Introduce Myself
My name is Julia Catherine Kobelski. I am 19 years old from West Hartford Connecticut. I am currently a second-year student at the University of Rhode Island and loving it! I’m majoring in marketing and minoring in textiles, merchandising, and design. And I want to share something out of the ordinary with you.
When people ask me to talk about myself I feel like I tell them the surface-level pre-rehearsed few sentences that everyone wants to hear. I say how I’m currently a second-year student at the University of Rhode Island and loving it. I briefly say that I enjoy my classes and my friends and I sometimes talk about what career path I am focused on. And that's it. That's all I typically say about myself. Yet, I want to take this opportunity to actually tell you about myself.
Some more interesting things about me are that I love to slalom ski and wakeboard. They are definitely my favorite sports to do and are much more niche compared to when I played field hockey or lacrosse. I love the summer. I am at my peak happiness in the summer. There's just nothing like it. I am also definitely someone who feels sad with the cold weather and all winter I wait and wait for the weather to get warm and the sun to come again. There's something I love about the end of winter when we transition to spring. The snow starts to melt and the air starts to warm and all of a sudden I have that delightful warm feeling inside. It’s the best feeling.
Back at home, I lived with both my parents and my younger sister, Ava. I definitely miss being home with them. However, being at school is the best. I do however desperately miss my mom’s cooking and my dad’s bear hugs. I am really happy to say that I am lucky enough to have a close relationship with both of my parents. And it's so nice that I can always go back home.
Also back home, I am very lucky to have a really close group of girls that are my best friends. They are the best people to rely on. Being away from them at school has definitely been tough but I’m really happy with how well we were able to stay in touch throughout the year. My favorite thing is getting to Facetime everyone to share what I have been doing and to get filled in on everything they have been up to as well! Here at school, my friends are awesome too. I’m really lucky to have made such great friendships from joining my sorority. I joined Sigma Kappa in, the fall of 2022, and it was the best decision ever. To anyone who is contemplating joining Greek life, I highly recommend it! It’s the best decision I ever made. I really have made my best friends here and met my future bridesmaids.
Other information that I feel is important for you to know about me is, I love quesadillas. They are my all-time favorite food. They are ALWAYS good and are the best thing to eat! All time best ice cream order is cookie dough with hot fudge. Nothing beats that. Elephants are my favorite animal. They are so cute! I want one as a pet so badly. Currently, I have an embarrassing attachment to my two elephant stuffed animals, Elsie and Alvin. They are my besties until I get a real elephant as a pet. Until then, I really want to get a wiener dog. I want to get a boy so that way I can name him Francesco and then I can call him Frank the Weiner dog. Please don’t steal that idea from me. I think it’s so funny. Another random fact about me is that LinkedIn is my favorite social media platform. It’s so fun to stalk people on it and see what people are doing with their actual lives.
I am a huge swiftie. Taylor Swift is amazing and I will always be a fan. She is so inspiring. Something I’m very passionate about is that her holy trinity is Folklore, Reputation, and Speak Now. Those three albums I don’t think could ever be topped. THEY ARE SO GOOD and folklore always reigns supreme. I also am a big Travis Scott, Drake, Dominic Fike, and Luke Bryan fan. It’s kind of confusing. I always just say I love the artist or the song, not the genre. I would never just sit down and listen to country music but I would sit down and listen to Luke. I also really like Kanye’s music. I just don’t like him lol.
Another thing I should add is that the more I age the more I take time to reflect on myself and what I’m doing. My biggest thing right now is trying to surround myself with people who are kind. I have good, beautiful friends (inside and out). I think it's so important to work hard on your friendships. A friendship is a relationship and you should work hard to show your friends that you appreciate them. Loyalty is key. This should also go both ways.
I feel like I am still getting to know myself. I change my mind and my thoughts every day. I also feel like that's ok. When I reflect on myself I sometimes realize new things about myself. This sounds weird but I feel like I could sit and talk with my own thoughts for hours.
My final message for you is to be yourself. Be a kind human. Reflect on who you are, who you want to be, and how you want to be perceived. You are special and are capable of doing amazing things. You are so loved.
Be something out of the ordinary.
